Technological advancements have made our lives both more convenient and more complex. Our daily and constant usage of computer and television screens may be a modern necessity, but it can also lead to serious strain on your eyes. Some problems that people who spend large amounts of time looking at electronic screens may face are:
- Double Vision
- Blurry vision or problems focusing the eyes
- Eye fatigue
In some cases, glasses or contact lenses may be able to reduce this strain on your eyes and help correct your vision. But glasses and contact lenses should not be seen as an adequate replacement for easy eye exercises that can seriously reduce eye strain and associated vision difficulties.
Easy Exercises for Your Eyes
Following these basic exercises, you can significantly reduce strain on your eyes and help prevent serious vision problems from occurring:
- Every 20 minutes, turn your focus onto an object about 20 feet away, and focus on that object for a count of 20 seconds. This is called the 20/20/20 rule.
- Starting with your finger 10 inches from your face, slowly draw your finger towards your nose until your finger doubles. Once your finger has doubled, retract the finger, and begin again, repeating this exercise until your finger does not double before it hits your nose. Complete this exercise in all four directions, looking for the same results each time, to ensure you are strengthening all of your eye muscles.
- Hold a book or magazine very close to your face for a few seconds, then focus on an object about 10 feet away. Shift your focus back and forth between the reading material and the distant object several times.
- Take frequent breaks from your computer to walk around your office or stretch. This serves the purpose of giving your eyes a break while simultaneously increasing oxygen flow to your entire body and thereby reducing tension and stress headaches as well.
Following these easy exercises can increase productivity, reduce tension, and lead to better health in general.
