Women’s Health
Women around the world have many of the same health problems. Obviously our bodies are very similar, but politics and the realities of medicine are also similar everywhere.
One problem women share is that medical research is done mainly on men. Another is that it is mainly men who control the funding for medical research and healthcare.
That contributes to problems like the so-called “drive-by” mastectomies in the U.S., meaning that women are sent home from the hospital the same day they have major surgery, with tubes still in their bodies. Often there is no one at home to care for them.
Whatever the level of funding, whatever the availability of healthcare, very often not enough resources are allocated for women, children and babies. In some countries women fare much better than in others.
This page is dedicated to keeping up with the progress in women’s health.
