If you have ever studied yoga, you know that it is an ancient technology of mind and body. Certain postures are said to realign or stimulate internal organs. And that’s not all.
Adept yoga practioners can stop arterial bleeding if they are wounded. They can hold their breath underwater far past the time when anyone else would have drowned. And their bodies remain agile, flexible and strong well into old age.
Now there is medical evidence that practicing yoga can help control chronic pain. That is great news for those many people who are unwilling or unable to take strong pain medication.

According to the Wall Street Journal, medical researchers have found that high doses of progesterone can prevent permanent brain damage and speed recovery if administered as soon as possible after a brain injury.
Progesterone, a female hormone associated with pregnancy, is known to protect the fetus and aid in brain and nerve development. Only recently have researchers discovered that it helps protect and heal adults, too.
Approval of progesterone as a medical treatmen is still 6 or 7 years away. But already researchers are making startling new discoveries. Immediately administering high doses of progesterone may also stop damage and speed recovery for stroke victims.

Kevin Jones injured his foot last season while playing running back for the Detroit Lions. Even after two surgeries, doctors did not know when he would be able to play again.
Determined not to miss the start of the regular football season, he tried an alternative therapy, heat acupuncture, and made a rapid recovery. Jones attributes his amazing progress to Dr. Ping, a martial artist who uses a practice that he calls “heat acupuncture” for healing.
Update: Jones was put back on the active roster in time for the first regular season game.

According the standard way of calculating whether or not a person is overweight, baseball stars Sammy Sosa and Barry Bonds would be considered fat. That doesn’t sound right! And, in fact, it isn’t.
The Body Mass Index or BMI, used since the 1950s by doctors to calculate whether or not patients are overweight, has now been shown to be inaccurate. Didn’t we really sort of know that all along?
